Windows & Walls

Houses have windows

Clams have shells

Minds have skulls

Hearts have flesh

All barriers of the mind, body, and soul

To protect and preserve

To keep us whole

The walls we put up beg to be torn down

they did not ask to be erected, or resurrected

They are helpful and harmful at the same time

Self-preservation or self-destruction

There has to be cracks and gaps

to let any light through

Walls don't have to be impermeable

only adjustable

To allow for the odd kiss to the head, to the lips, to the soul

to reignite our whole

Walls cannot be forced down but need to be faced with intention

Why are you here?

Are you protecting me from love or pain?

Because usually one follows another

Something to lose, something to gain

Walls can be language, lost in translation

Yet one look, one touch

finds us in elation

until it leaves

in silence

Windows are transparent squares of clarity

They fool us into believing

We have the right balance

of protection and transparency

Throw your stone at my window

and see if it breaks

I would welcome a crack, a fracture

a shard that cuts me

Because wounds heal

Glass - repairs

The damage isn't permanent

because no one cares

Throw your stone at my window

And see it bounce off

To settle on the ground nearby

Disappointed by its weakness

To break through the barrier

Feeling less strength than meekness

No longer the carrier

Of pain, inflicted

For no reason

Rest there, through every season

Walls can be windows

Windows can be walls

It’s up to us what they are

Stones can be treasured

Stones can be thrown

Only you decide how far
